I Love Photography

One of the things that I enjoy a lot is photography. It makes me express art through the equipment and software used in creating creative photos but believe me, I still have lots of room for improvement.

A photo of my friend's camera. Canon EOS 550D.

My interest in photography started during Fourth Year High School. I have this friend who takes a lot of good photos even though she still uses Digital Camera when I knew her but right now, she uses a DSLR Camera. One factor thatย makes her photos impressive is her Adobe Photoshop skills. This person once asked me for a photo shoot because she wants to practice more. I agreed to it and I really liked the outcome. It inspired me to enter the world of photography. I requested a DSLR camera as a graduation gift from my parents and they did. I asked my friend to teach me the basics of photography and photoshop.

She thought me of the three basic things in photography. The aperture, shutter speed and ISO. The aperture is the adjustment of the lens opening. It determines how much light will enter through the lens. She also told me that the lower aperture, the better shallow depth of field. Shutter speed as what I remember is that the duration of the entrance of light through the lens, if the shutter speed is low, it will cause some blurring in the photo, a use of a tripod could be good if choosing low shutter speed to avoid shaking of the camera. The ISO is another factor which includes light, as far as my friend thought me, in places with good natural light, the ISO should be lower and in darker places, the ISO should be higher. The only thing is that when we push the ISO to its highest option, the photo seems to be grainy so use of lower shutter speed and tripod is advisable in dark places. Those three factors should be balanced together. To understand more of what I said in this paragraph, here is a photo I got from TRIPOD, an organization in De La Salle Canlubang for students interested in different fields of art:

NOTE: I did not mention Exposure above because someone told me that those three things (ISO, aperture and Shutter Speed) are the most important when it comes to photography.

A visual representation of what I've written above.

That friend of mine is now studying in Manila and we haven’t meet recently to talk about many things including photography but we are still supporting each other. Now that I’m already a college student, I practice a lot on photography and joined my school’s organization for those who are interested in different aspects of art, the Tripod Society.

When I take photos, I don’t want that other people won’t see it. ย I always want other people to see and give comments and suggestions to my works to be better. I make a blog entries for my practice photo shoots, I also upload it on photo streaming sites and social networking sites.

Here are some of my current works as of now, feel free to give comments and suggestions.

  11. what makes a photo great is actually capturing the essence of the subject… a tiny bit of adjustment of that photo through editing makes it a graphic design… ๐Ÿ˜‰

  15. It’s good that you defined the terms used in photography in the article, therefore, sparing your readers the confusion when you use them. Also, your use of the Manual Photography Cheat Sheet as a sort of summary for what you’ve just discussed was also helpful. My only comment is that there are some grammatical errors in the article and you should take note of how you can make the whole thing more coherent. It would also be good if you can make it more organized.

About the pictures — I thought they were okay. It would be better if the setting of the shoots would be someplace where the venue can compliment the model and the kind of atmosphere you want the picture to have. I also think you can improve on the lighting but I don’t think I have the right to comment on that because I barely know anything about photography, haha. My favorite set would be Shaira’s set.

Keep up the good work, Ryel! We might see you in the field of fashion photography someday! ๐Ÿ™‚

(Sorry if ang haba ng comment, LOL.)

It’s simple and friendly ang dating, so encouraging siya for other’s to read. Good work.

    P.S.
Why don’t you put a picture of you with your camera sa start so that they could see the photographer with his beloved camera? ๐Ÿ™‚

  33. I am glad to know that you are moving (and making) towards your dream. I am happy to know too that you enjoy the things that you do. It is true that we have different passions in life in which we can shine and at the same time share what we know to others. It is only but normal to get praises and thank them for it. it is also right and proper to accept healthy, constructive comments which will truly make you think and improve and learn.

Now you know that you have something to improve on, just continue them and take more challenges. This will help you sharpen your skills. Just keep your feet grounded and share your skills to others as well.

Your lucky you have the time and your young to start with this wonderful hobby. I myself bought one to practice and to learn but my time is taken more of my passion in teaching and in dancing. So just continue and learn as much as you can while your young. Then teach me. ๐Ÿ™‚

Good luck Rye and always stay happy.

  34. Hey Ryel!

Great post! Just wanna let you know that exposure is important in photography especially in the post processing! ๐Ÿ™‚ The cheat sheet was a great visual!

I have some tutorials on post processing on my blog if you want some help! ๐Ÿ˜‰

    http://bonheurbelle.wordpress.com/2010/10/11/creating-lookbook-ready-photos-cross-processing-photos/

Don’t forget angles, lighting, and venue are also important! You can have good settings on the camera, but if the angles, lightings, venue (and post processing) are bad, you’re not gonna have great outputs!

    Keep on shooting!

  35. Nice blog….photography is my new hobby for now……and this blog helps me to learn more about photography……nice again and keep up the good work Ryel! โ™ฅ \m/

  36. Hi Ryel. Your photos are of good quality and I believe it is because you are inspired and you love what you are doing. I just want to suggest that you enhance your photos more based on the mood of the photo. Just like when the subject’s pose is sexy then add some contrast and make it a little bit dim.

All in all you’re a great photographer so keep it up and keep on improving.

  37. its very informative. your shots looked good. best of luck in your endeavor. keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars!

  38. I’m not an aspiring photographer but I’ve always fancied taking pictures of everything. (currently doing it with a digicam)
    An informative blog, I say.
Keep up the work. You’ll do better. ๐Ÿ˜€

  39. Nice blog Ryel ๐Ÿ˜‰ Continue on doing the things you love and for sure you will succeed on it someday. Goodluck and Godbless!

  40. This is a nice blog. It great that you started with the definition of some photography terms.
The shots are okay, but you still need to play with your camera and do some techniques that would WOW us. When you feature something in your blog, choose the best shots, so more of incredible shots.
You’re good and we’re hoping to see more from you! God bless!
